To trade or not
« on: August 11, 2007, 08:32:42 PM »
Hi Y'all I love guns and I always regret the ones that got away! But I laid eyes on a really minty 1903a3 a couple of days ago with an asking price $700.00, I know I can get that down a little. But I still cant afford a nice rifle like that right now. I went in looking at Enfields but when I noticed the 03 I just need it. I collect and shoot Mausers, Garands, Mosins, etc and love to hunt with them as well. I have a Bushy M-4 that well serves no real purpose it is a fun rifle and I already own it. I guess I am just looking for opinions and what you might do if you were in my shoes. Thanks

Crittergittr:  Dang man, that's a rough choice.  I would always hold onto something like the M4, for purely, ummmm, 'social reasons' but the 03a3 is one you drool over.

She is 'minty' ya'll said - serial number below the magical 80 something so she would have the properly heat treated receiver???????  That would be one to buy and hunt with, too.

Geez, ya oughta see if the dealer will allow you to pay off over a couple of months.  I've had to do that before but at least I was able to finally buy the rifle and didn't have to let it go.  I wouldn't trade for it,  I would buy it.  JMTCW.  Mikey.

Rule #1 ----Never sell, you will always regret it.
Rule #2 --- Never trade, you will always regret it
It may take 20 years, but at some point you WILL regret it!

I can't for the life of me understand why the American surplus stuff has gotten so expensive.  I like the 03 but not $700 worth.  You could buy three decent Mausers for that price but if you wnat it, go for it.  I doubt you'll find one in that condition much cheaper.

Thanks for chiming in y'all. I did it any way, I got the 03a3 down to $550.00, its a SC matching with nice bore and great wood, its in a straight stock but that's cool with me. My brother in law wanted the M-4 so I sold it to him and if he doesn,t enjoy it I can buy it back. If he loves it (he will) I build a new one cheaper and the way I want it. Besides I carry one at work so it kinda takes some of the fun out of having one. Good point that it is a purely social tool that's why I had it to begin with ( and coyotes). Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I got kinda busy for a few days wife had boy number 3 I forgot how much work they can be. Thanks again CrittrGittr
