Bear Claws?
« on: June 01, 2007, 07:35:48 AM »
I used to have a buddy up in Alaska who was a part time animal control officer. His job was to deal with wayward bears who wandered into town. He tried to capture or scare them away but more often than not he would have to kill them as they wouldn't leave once they discovered how easy food was to find in town. Well he must have had hundreds of bear claws, and dozens and dozens of hides, skulls, etc.

He gave me some claws but has since passed.

Is there a company or person who has more of these?

Most claws remain attached to the hide (at the time of sealing they have to be by law).  I would call up some taxidermy shops and see if they have done any special work where they removed the claws.

I have had quite a bit of my outside friends ask me for bear claws, and they all get the same answer:  the whole hide for a fair price, if I have an extra that is.

Depending on the condition of the hide, the size... and also what is all attached (claws specifically in this example) I have seen black bear hides go anywhere from between $200 and $500.
