Good luck, God speed. I hope you get a chance to be with in 3/4 of a mile of Bin Ladun. I still can't believe we can't find him.

Mitchell
Don't want to tell you what to do, you're an adult, but after watching BOTH my parents (both died in '06) and my wife's mother all die from smoking related diseases, it's a horrible way to go.  My mom used to say she smoked during ALL her pregnancies and her kids are all healthy.  I never told her but the Dr recently told me I have about 60-70% of the lung capacity of a normal adult.  They (mom and dad) used to smoke in the car on trips, and ONLY after much whining did they roll down the windows when the kids were in the car.

Yea it's tough to quit (so they tell me, I never started) but it's worth it.  One of the last things my mom said before she died, was she wished she'd never started.

My daughter is currently going through training to become an RN and the vast majority of the long term patients they work with are smoking related or alcohol related.

Now my brother-in-law, who refuses to quit, is starting the tell tale coughing of the early signs of Emphysema which is mostly what killed my mom.

If you're married and have kids, do them all a favor and quit.

If you just picked it up...then lay it back down and as fast as you can do so...I smoke...and I wish I could go back in time and wring the necks of the kids who urged me to start...and to have someone kick my parents butts for smoking around us kids..and my mom for smoking while she was pregnant with me...Hopefully you can still quite now with out much problem..and save yourself a life of misery..When you get to my age after a lifetime of smoking..you will say the same thing..Trust me and others who are telling you...it isn't a good thing to do. I am one of the unfortunate types who is so physically & mentally addicted they can't quite.. and am doomed to continue until a cure is developed...What is available now doesn't work in any combination for me..believe me ...I've tried..After all these years of studying it...the doctors still really don't know everything nicotine does to a persons body...let alone all of the additives they have coated them with over the years to make people more addicted to them......If you say to yourself..." Oh...I can quite anytime I want..." Then prove it to yourself and do so now...The longer you smoke..the harder it will become...and the more damage you do to yourself and possible others who are around you when you smoke...and I pray to God that your physiology isn't like mine..because if it is...you run the chance of never being able to quite and have a normal life without them...Quite while you have a chance to do so...It just isn't worth it...and you can never justify doing it...

Not to beat on a dead horse, but I have to agree with the other guys.  I wasn't addicted to smoking, but to chewing/dip/rub...whatever you want to call it.  I know you southeastern Ohio boys like to call it rub.  They tell me that chewing is even more addictive than smoking, which is neither here nor there, but I quit cold turkey, the last one I had was 13July of last year, and haven't had one since.  I had been using it non stop(other than basic, and ait...which would have been a great time to quit) since I was 14.  I never really thought that it was that big of a deal till about 6 months or so down the road after quitting, and you are looking at it from the other side of the fence.  I have receding gums on a couple of teeth with nerves showing.  Need to have a dentist repair them.  I have noticed that my teeth are alot whiter now which is nice.  Sorry, I'll get off my rant.  Tobacco is one of those mental, and oral fixations that never really go away.  I strongly believe that if I had a chew today that I would start right back up again, and I've heard alot of former smokers say the same.  It's tough, but in the long run its up to you, you have to tell yourself that you want to stop, and then stick to it.  For your health, and your bank account...something to think about.  And cigarettes aren't getting cheaper by any means.  You can buy alot of new rifles with the money you save.  My wife quit smoking Jan. of last year, and we made a deal that the money we spent on tobacco, we could get back at the end of the year to use one whatever we wanted...which amounts to a fair amount($1200 or a bit more for a can a day chewer/smoker).

Oh yeah...never got to see my grandpas, they both died before I was born.  Smoking helped them to a shorter life.

Mitchell,

I smoked from the time I was 13 until 2 years ago, I am now 44, laying on the table having an angioplasty will make you want to quit right now, trust me on this, quit it all together.

Sorry Mitchell,
didn't mean for it to get like this. I never made it to actual sniper school just several people I knew were and were willing to teach me everything I wanted to know. I rented a storage space so I could reload my own ammo for a rifle I never kept in the armory so I could shoot as often as time would allow. The guys taught me cover and concelment and how to pick out things that just don't look right. Envy you tht you get the full school. Should love it.

I know I'm late to this thread, but I want to congratulate Mitch too. Good to see that Army Intelligence isn't always an oxymoron. Nothing like using an accomplished gun nut / pd hunter to make a sniper out of. 12 min for 2 miles sounds good to me, I just barely got under 6 min for one mile when I was 28, messed up my knees the next year and never ran again. And don't go smoking those cancer sticks around any gasoline, you know that's no fun.  :o

Mitch
I never smoked, but only have 60-70% of adult lung capacity, that said, I could never run a mile in 6 min.  I hope you do.  Please come here as often as time allows and share your secrets (any you're allowed to share anyway) of great shooting.  I'm always eager to learn from those that know.
