Best stuff to use to bait hogs ?
« on: June 22, 2007, 05:16:28 PM »
Last year, I found plenty of hog sign in a deep Ozark hollow, the next time I went back there was a Mo. conservation trap.  I checked it again last Tues. No Trap or hog sign. Do you think they were all trapped out? There is no way to get to this place anymore by truck or 4 wheeler, lots of down timber and brush from wind and ice storms. very isolated. I still think they are scattered in the area, so what is the best way to try and draw them in ?

Get you a couple of 5 gal buckets, a bag or corn, strawberry jello, and cheap beer. Divide the corn between the buckets about 1/4 - 1/2 full, add 1 packet of jello each, and 1 can of beer. Fill with water to about 3/4 full cover and let sit for a week or more. The longer the better. BE CAREFUL the lids could pop/explode off. Dump where you want to hunt and sit back and wait. They will come to it. You can even  burry it or make pig pipes to put it in.

Mix up some corn meal, molasses and milk or buttermillk...Let the milk sour and take it out and bury it 18-20" down...They will spend time rooting it up and keep them in one spot for awile.

Mixed up the stuff you told me. How long does it take to ripen ? Now all this old man has to do is fight 1/2 mile of brush and get it in the hollow I picked. Pretty hot here in Mo. now.

5 gallon bucket with a lid. Put corn and diesel in there. it will attract the hogs but keep all the coons, deer, and such from messing with it.

The hotter the weather the shorter the time. If it is in direct sun it should not take long 3 days to a week. Give or take.
