45lc/410
« on: June 03, 2007, 02:11:23 AM »
I have a barrel for my handi that I can't seem to get to shoot.  It's a 410/45LC.  It shot a 6" group at 25 yrds and I not at all happy with that.  What kind of accuracy should I expect with this barrel, what loads do you use for good accuracy?  Is there a good 410 slug load out there?  Do I just have a $50 horse shoe stake?

Try the remington 410 slugs they work pretty good in mine. As for the accuracy  you may be able to close your group size with the 45 colt by using a slightly larger cast bullet . But you have to accept the gun for what it is, a duel purpose survival gun. 410 shotshells for small game and a 45 colt for close range defense  or slightly larger game at close range. The complete lack of sights adds to the accuracy problem.

I have done some work with using 450 mongo type loads. That was last fall. I did get better groups, but it is work. I am planning to revisit the45/410. I was actually thinking of doing some work with various length shells roll crimped with 45 bullets. or getting the brass shells and doing it that way. It is on the way back burner right now.

Is the 6" group with 45LC ammo or with 410 slugs?  Maybe I missed it.

45LC.  I think the problem could be the bullet jump.  I  wondered, if I could use 410 brass and hand loaded sabot or 45 bullets. It would be a great brush gun and still shoot 410 shot.   How and what does yours shoot?

IT did  well with255 gr soft cast bullets. 2-3 in at 70yards I know odd distance , but it is what I have. That is about as far as I could see using it anyways
