Wasn't that a short lived combo 5.56/12gauge weapon intended for security personel? I handled one of the same name at the Aberdeen proving grounds about 20 years ago. It was problematic and unreliable, featuring a manualy actuated selector for the trigger linkage. Wasn't too slick. Maybe you are talking about something different.   It was a jarring experience when you expected to fire 5.56 and fired a 12 gauge round accidently, it was also quite heavy IIRC. ;)

it look cool. but it's easy to see it's down fall. A good idea but not a good gun.

It's funny,I hadn't thought about that thing in a long time. We were testing possible alt. to the masterkey breaching system,. basically an m-16a2 with a remington 870 under mount. The crossfire was pretty poor for what we wanted. A clunky pump action like that was not something any of us wanted to  use in urban cqb. Apparently they thought the civillian market would drool over it. I guess it might appeal to someone.

I believe I saw a M16 platform with a shotgun or grenade launcher under the barrel.  I believe both the shotgun and grenade launcher where easily interchangable

yup, a heck of a lot better set up than the crossfire. They have quite a bit lighter version now than we had back in the late 80's and eary 90's when I was around. Having the two function independently definitely was better than using the same trigger linkage and having to switch it around. Definitely not as smooth and natural as the barrel selection on a nice double. or having two triggers.The draw back to the masterkey was that the trigger for the shotgun wasn't located conveniently to the 16 trigger. Not really a big deal for the use, but you know, always need to find a reason for something new. I personally never thought it was that big of a deal to have a back slung shotgun either.There was the switch over time between weapons, but for situations where the shotgun was being deployed, it was avery good weapon to use anyway.Again. it is almost 20 years later and they still use a very similar system, so it can't be too bad ;D
