HOW TO IDENTIFY SKS

I HAVE PICKED UP A SKS.  I CAN FIGURE OUT WHO MANUFACTURED IT.  IT HAS THE RUSSIAN BLADE BAYONETE.  THERE ARE PROOF MARKS ALL OVER BUT NO NAME.  ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE RECEIVER ABOUT 3/4 WAY BACK THERE IS A STAR.  THE STOCK IS LAMINATE WOOD.  I HAVE BEEN AROUND GUNS FOR A WHILE, I UNDERSTAND WHAT A REALLY GOOD CONSTUCTED GUN IS AND WHAT A BAD ONE IS.  I HAVE HANDLE LOTS OF NORINCO,  THIS IS A LOT BETTER MADE THAN ONE OF THEM.  JUST WONDERING WHAT IT IS.

THE IMPORTATION MARKS ON THE GUN ARE AT THE VERY VERY END OF THE BARREL.  THANKS FOR INFO

Preban:  Hmmmm, the star might indicate Russian manufacture as might the laminated stock.  If you feel this is a better made rifle than the Norincos then you may well have a Russian made SKS and they are supposed to be the best.  Maybe some of the other posters on this forum can help further.  HTH.  Mikey.

I might be wrong but I think the Russiann/Romanian was the only two to use laminated stocks in the SKS and the star might indicated the Tula plant of the  former Soviet Union if it has an arrow in the star.  One way to tell is go to www.surplusrifle.com.

 Five pointed star is Russian,Tula arsenal.Should have a date there.
