I don't think it's a matter of committment, it's a matter of what tickles your fancy. I shoot pistols in bullseye shooting. I go through a couple of thousand rounds a year in 45ACP. I think I've paid about $40 for used range brass. $75 for 2,000 swaged bullets, $34 for 2,000 primers, and about $22 for a pound and a half of powder that's needed for the loads. Compare that to the cost of reloading bottleneck cartridges with large powder charges and jacketed bullets. Big difference.
