WI's background check to go to $30
« on: May 02, 2007, 07:23:42 AM »
I read a short blurb last week in the Pioneer Press that Doyle was raising the background check to $30 in his proposed budget.  This is the background check that I believe now costs $8.00 that the dealer calls in to the state when you wish to purchase a handgun.  Has anyone else heard of this?

I haven't heard anything about it yet, but if it happens, then that is just dirty pool.

I'd sure like to see that bought and paid for Doyle out of office.

Just my opinion.

Guess what fellas at 8 bucks were getting screwed >:( I bought a used 22 a couple of weeks ago over the bridge in MN because my local gunshop did not have what I was looking for ( a used Marlin 60) and they do not charge any fee for background checks. I suggest you all call your Reps and Senators and tell them you are against this in Doyles Bill. (What a #$%@#$)  >:(   8 bucks is bad enough but 30 is assinine. Doyle may understand that we have the right to own a gun in WI as was passed in 98 I think but he is going to try to make us pay for that right. I really think it sucks we have so damn many dumb ass folks in WI that would vote an idiot in like this moron just because he is on the Democratic ticket. I have been saying that the Democrats in my area would vote for Hitler just because he would be on the ticket. I was wrong I think the rest of the liberal dims would do it state wide.  >:( >:( >:(

I don't understand why WI even has a background check since the feds do.  Just use the feds check and get rid ofh ours.   Here's a link to an article on this fee increase, as well as others.  A lot of these I hadn't heard about until now.  http://www.gazetteextra.com/taxincreases_glance021507.asp

I viewed all 114 pages of the budget (twice) and could not find the fee increase. But, I was scaning through fast. Must be buried, or vaugely refered to.

I do believe all the links to acticles saying so, as they arent just making this up.

Anyone else care to look?

Peterbuilt might be worded different or semi hidden considering the source. I do know I have seen alerts from the NRA, GOA and one other gun group so I would guess this is legit. Plus when I called my Rep and Senators offices the office help seemed to know what I was talking about so consider it legit.

I have heard of this increase also. Would this effectively stop people from buying guns in Wisconsin? Who would buy a 125 dollar gun and pay 30 dollars for a background check?

According to the NRA, the background fee increase is dead.  Thanks for all who emailed/phone/sent a letter to the fools in Madison.

Fee Increase for Handgun Background Checks in Wisconsin Fails!

The proposed fee increase on background checks for handguns in the Department of Justice section of the Senate Budget bill, Senate Bill 40, was not included in this year’s budget bill.

Please contact the members of the Joint Committee on Finance and thank them for preventing this unnecessary tax on firearms and gun owners.

Anyone got a record on how each one voted I cannot believe Jauch would vote against Doyle.   >:(

jh45gun,

I thought your question would be simple to answer, so as an exercise I started searching, figuring I'd have the answer in about five minutes. I was so wrong.

I looked through Wisconsin's legislature pages for at least three hours last night trying to find the answer to something as simple as, "how did they vote." All I can say is, "What a friggin nightmare!"

Oh, I found everything you could possible want to know about SB40 - well everything except the simple answer to your question. Jeez, you'd think it would have been one of the first things mentioned in those thousands of pages of government crap.

It's no wonder that people don't know as much about their government as they should.

I think it would be faster to drive down to Madison and just ask, lol ;)

Thanks for trying Skunk that is why I asked as I did not see anything doing a quick search either. Jauch is like wart on Doyles butt and there to to his bidding.  :o So I doubt he voted against it.

Thanks for looking too skunk. I have spend alot of time searching the Wis website and can't find anything either. I guess the kings prefer that the peasants don't know what is going on.

I'm sure the NRA & GOA will find the results and publish them.
