Rebluing frames and barrels from the T/C factory
« on: June 07, 2007, 02:35:14 PM »

Whats up

There's a used Contender in .45 Colt thats in blue with a wooden forearm and rubber grip for about $275 at a local gun store. Even though I don't shoot 45 colt I still want to buy it. I shoot .44 and 38/357. The finish on the frame is good but could use a reblue. If I send the frame to
T/C, would they reblue it? Could I have them do it up in stainless? That would be sweeeeet. Has anyone done this? What about barrels? Could I send them a barrel to reblue?

What I was gonna do was buy the used T/C in .45 colt, play with it alittle bit, then sell the barrel here, or on Ebay. Then with the funds, buy a 12 inch .357 and or a 14 inch .44 barrel from Eds Contenders or Ebay.

What do you guys suggest? Should I find a TC frame and then buy my barrel seperately or buy it new complete?

By the time you buy a used blue Contender and reblue it, you might be better off shopping a bit more and getting one that doesn't need reblueing.  There are places like SSK Industries that can chrome your gun, put a black finish on it, etc., but it obviously will cost you.

Also, I prefer stainless steel.  With a bit of shopping, a stainless steel Contender frame in excellent condition could probably be obtained for $250 or less and a stainless steel barrel (maybe not chambered for the exact cartridge you want though) in the $150 range.

Not sure what the re-blue cost wold be, but that barrel would bring $175-$200 on E-bay if it is a straight 45 colt (not the 410/45).  That would get you into a frame pretty cheap.
