Marlin 45-70 XLR Accuracy Updated Update
« on: May 13, 2007, 12:06:51 PM »
Just got back from the range with my 45-70. I was shooting Hornady 350 gr over 50 gr of IMR 4064. First three shot group was 1-3/4 inches the next two were under an inch. This load seems to be very consistent even with the recoil, which is not insignificant. All shots at 100 yards. I am extremely pleased with the performance of this rifle!

The next three shot group-- all touching!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Been practicing shooting off-hand in preparation for deer season. I can now hit a 12 inch diameter gong at 200 yards 50% of the time.

A fun gun to shoot.

Great work Mc,

I'm very happy with mine. Gotta admit that the recoil pad is a definite bonus.

I have a 457 from Wild West Guns in Alaska which is built from a Marlin 45-70 and it is great rifle.  I just shot a bear last night with it.  The guy I was with was very impressed with how the bear dropped instantly with one shot.

Just curious, was that shooting at 50yds or 100yds.?

As soon as I cast up some 350grainers I'll be going to the range with mine.
