Just found you site, how great to find others who have the bug. Thought I might share a pic of my Union Coehorn I recently restored. Tell me what you think.

That's a great looking mortar, I like the matching powder box idea too.

doubleduece,

Welcome to the board. You will find a bunch of great people here. Nice job on the coehorn. Is that a hern tube? Also, I really like your limber chest. Is that a 1/2 scale size?
If you make it idiot proof, then, someone will make a better idiot.

I am not sure if it is a Hern tube or not. I traded a zouve musket at a reenactment for it and it was in rough shape, needed some TLC. It was in confederate pattern with pine and linseed base. I think it is a Hern though based on the information I have found. The Limber I built last month, I based it on the limber used on our full scale 1841 6 pounder. I kind of did a reduction approach when I made it so there was no real scale involved.

A Hern will have a 2.25 inch bore. The bore will be 10 inches deep.
There will be a seamless liner in it... you can see the outline of the liner if you look at the muzzle.
There will be no powder chamber in it... the bore is 2.25 all the way to the bottom.

Looks like yours is all ready to shoot  ;D

How about some more closeups of the limber chest?

Thanks for the nice comments. Hey Rickk here are some more picks of the limber for you. I use this in reenactments as well and the left side of the limber holds my charges, and the right has all my implements and tools. The hardware I made from aluminum unlike the originals using iron. From your descriptions, It is definately A Hern. The dimensions are the same and the bore is 2.25" . I can for sure see the liner in the barrel. Although I have not shot any projectiles yet, that is in my future.

Cat Whisperer, here are a couple of the 41's. The 3/4 scale is named John, named after the three Apostles at VMI back at the war. I wasChief of the Piece that day. This was the battle here in Ft.Pierce Florida. The other pic is the full scale 41 named luke. And size for size, nothing speaks louder than the smaller john. He booms like nothing i have ever heard! ;D

Welcome aboard Double Duce, I'm pretty new here also. I think we finally found paradise. Everyone has been great here sharing there experience. You did a great job on your fixer upper I wish I was as good with wood as I am with metal. Your Ammo crate looks outstanding. M223

M223 I wish I had metal fabricating experience. Wood comes naturally to me, but can't do much with metal. One day I will learn and buy a lathe have some fun!
