does anyone have a 6mm mark II
« on: June 12, 2007, 07:01:22 AM »
I am new to this board and just purchased a Ruger 77 Mark II in 6mm remington. I am reloading for it and would like here any tips on this rifle or any reloading data that anyone would like to share. This is a flawless rifle shipped from the factory in 1990 and not one scratch on it, I paid $400 for it, is this a good price? I like this board very much and am glad I found it!!! THANKS EVERYONE!!!

I have a 6mm in the Mark II and I really like it.  I have had the action and chamber area bedded and the rest of the barrel floats.  I have had best luck using the 75HP's and 100gr Spitz's in the rifle with RL19 and IMR4831.  I personally feel you got a very good rifle at a very good price!
Good Shooting,
George

I also think you made a good buy on this rifle and the 6mm is a good caliber IMHO. :)

Thanks George and Rugerfan I been thinking about RL19 or RL22 and 100 grain bullets, whats your best group and how many grains of powder do you use George? I really love the gun it fits so nice and looks really nice. I also heard about Ruger outsourcing barrels to other suppliers in the early 90's is this true that you know of and when did they start outsourcing barrels? I just hope I dont have one of those bad barrels!!! THANKS FOR THE INFO!!

My loads may well be too hot for your rifle so work up to them from below.  With RL19 I use 50.5gr with the 75HP Sierra and 45.5gr with the 100gr Sierra.  With IMR4831 I use 49.0gr with the 75HP and 45.0gr with the 100gr.  My best group for five shots has been 3/8" and the rifle normally averages 5/8" to 3/4" five shot groups.
Good Shooting,
George

I personally like RL19 the best in my two 6mms, I get a little more velocity and a little better accuracy.
Good Shooting,
George
