Love that taurus 605
« on: May 29, 2007, 02:54:19 PM »
That taurus 357 model 605 I bought about four months ago is one cool revolver. The satin stainless  steel gives it a real quality look ,as  with the model 94 22cal I bought 10 years ago I replaced the factory grips with the pachmar compact grip.
On some sites I hear some boo hooing about taurus, but I love my three. I also own the model 96 a 22 on a 357 frame, a nice gun

I have two Model 85's now and have had several more in various calibers. Never a problem with any of them.

I just bought a 605 SS in .357/.38 for my wife and hope to take it to the range in a couple of weeks.  The trigger pull is a little stiff, so I may have it worked on.  Anyway, I'm hoping she'll like it.

I wonder about all the Taurus complaining I see around as well. Sure, some have problems. Name me a brand that does not. But Taurus stands behind them, and will fix your trouble. I've had 4 Taurus handguns. Had a PT99. Put thousands of rounds through it over 20 years, and never had a problem. Had a 94 22LR, that lost the rear sight blade & screws. That's NOT covered by warranty, but Taurus sent me a new one anyway. Currently have a PT1911, and a 605. The PT1911 is new & has only 100 rounds through it. But 100 trouble free rounds. The 605 is in for repair. I bought it used, and it had the problem when I bought it. I did put around 30 rounds through it, and I can tell I'm gonna be keeping it. Very good shooter. Maybe I got lucky, because it has a wonderful trigger.

Just picked up my Taurus 605 in stainless today, great looking gun.  My third taurus revolver, besides a raging bull and a .444 ultralite.  Here in the forums, I've talked about my .444 problems, which I've fixed.  My experience just made me make sure to look over revolvers better, every one, not just taurus.

The gun locks up tight, is well aligned, and cycles very smooth.  It might be a while before I get to shoot it because work is gonna be crazy for a bit, but in a couple of weeks, I'll make sure that I get back about it.

There were a few I looked at that I had to pass on cause there was something wrong.

Look at the 7-shot .357, and one of the cylinders wouldnt lock up tight, had a lot of float.  Looked at a blued 605 in 357, and there was a little bit of a click before the cylinder would engage, it was rubbing on something.  There is a lot of times when people buy quicker than they should, a bit of looking it over they could save themselves from trouble, and save my ear some complaining.

Yeah thats good advice to look over a gun before buying.
Sometimes when I buy a gun i'm in too much of a hurry.
              Good luck with your 605.

I have had about ten Taurus handguns. Both the 99 and 92 plus a bunch of revolver's. I posted about the problem with my new 608 and I still don't have it back. Other than that I had a Taurus 65 nickle that just wouldn't shoot. I tried everything and nothing worked so I traded it off after telling the salesman that I couldn't get it tio shoot well. All Brands have problems now and then. Its how those problems are handled that counts. This is the first one I have ever had top return so I am waiting to see if the problem is fixed and fixed right. If it is then I am still a Taurus fan. I lve my 444 UL.
shot placement is everything.

I just picked one up, blue, (just barely) used for $200. I've taken it out once, and it is a handful, but not totally unmanageable  with full .357 loads. I'm going to try it tomorrow with 38 +p level loads.

I had a problem with a .41 magnum Tracker that would not turn the cylinder sometimes in double action, so buying this Taurus was a leap of faith.

Yep, it does snap back a lot in the hands, but what can you expect from a .357 mag that small?

My accuracy definitely isnt what I would like it to be with it, but it's a brand new gun, a few more rounds should put me on target.

Shoots really smooth though, single and double action, due to the short cylinder swing, it isnt a big fan of speed loaders, but once again, a little practice with the gun and I will be there.

Tried it again this week with hand loads: 158 grain lead round nose flat point, 4.5 grains bullseye. Much easier to handle, and grouped well and hit where the sights were aimed at 15 yards. I loaded up a hundred more when I got home. I also tried some Remington 180 grain hollowpoints, but they were not as accurate, and also were almost too long for the cylinder when seated to the cannelure.
