T/C system 1

Allright I bought a T/C system 1 .50cal rifle.I've never used an in-line,and know nothing about this rifle.I tried looking on line for info but found little.Can I use # 11 caps with this rifle,and how do I take the breech plug out.also what is your opinion of this rifle.I hope I did'nt pay to much I got it from a woman how got it in her divorce settlement.Its unfired in the box for 125.00 any info would be appreciated

Did it come with an owners manual?  You should be able to buy some kind of starter kit to remove the breech plug, seat bullets, measure powder etc.  I would start off by contacting T/C.  Let them know what you are needing and they should be able to help you out.  Or, if you've got a friend with a ML, he should be able to help you out also.  I was scared of mine at first out of ignorance but absolutely love it now.  Good luck and good hunting.  Greg

Go to www.tcarms.com .  There is a link that lists the manuals they have online.  I think this is your ML manual      http://www.tcarms.com/assets/manuals/noncurrent/System1_Muzzleloader_Manual.pdf    but  if yours isn't listed, there is an 800 number to call to get what you need.  They also have numerous muzzleloading parts available and should be able to help you with what will work for your ML.  Good luck and let us know what you find.  Thanks, Greg

The T/C System 1 is a nice rifle.  A little on the heavy side though.  It should have come with a couple of take down wrenches that you will need to remove the breech plug.  You will need to remove the stock, then remove the barrel from the receiver in order to remove the breech plug.  The nipple it came with should be for #11 caps.  You can also get an adapter to fire 209's if you choose to.  The nice thing about the System 1 is you can change barrels from .32 caliber to .50, .54, .58 and 12 guage.  You can still find the .54 cal here and there but the others are getting pretty hard to find.  Like the others said, if it didn't come with an owners manual you can download one from T/C's web site.  It's listed under non-current models.  If it's new in the box and unfired what you paid is pretty cheap as most of them are going for a bit more.

My former System 1 was a very accurate rifle at the range. I only used the .50 barrel at the range,but did use the 12 guage barrel to kill one turkey hen and several squirrels.  The main thing I didn't like about it was the scope mounts are on the receiver instead of the barrel, which means if you change barrels to other calibers you will have to change scopes or sight it in over again.

$125 is a great price even for a blued rifle, if you got a stainless you stole it!! ;)

It's stainless with the synthetic stock.So it is a good deal. Thanks for all the info.The manual was not with the rifle nor were any tools for it.I'll have to pick them up from T/C

Try  TC maxiballs and 80-90 gr. of triple seven 2Fg that load will get you started at 25 yds. should put them in the same hole.  I also recommend TC flame thrower #11  nipples and RWS caps, if you can still find them.

If you call T/C for an owners manual tell them you bought a rifle new in the box but did not come with the takedown wrenches or the allen wrench.  Most times they will send them to you at no cost if they have them.  If they are out of them I saw them on eBay for $1.80 plus shipping.  If a search on eBay doesn't turn any up go to D&R Sports eBay store, they have them listed for $1.80 plus shipping.  Last time I tried to get a manual from T/C for a non-current model they told me they were out of print and would have to download one from their site.  Toytruck is right about using maxiballs.  The System 1 along with the Firehawk and Thunderhawk all have the same rate of twist, 1:38, which T/C made for their maxiballs and maxihunters.  Sabots work okay also.  My Thunderhawk prefers the T/C Breakaway Sabot (a three piece sabot) over the others.  You'll just have to play around with the powder charge to see what it likes but 80 - 90 grains should be plenty.  Good luck with it and let us know how it shoots.
