I have a T/C White Mountain Carbine in .50 cal and I'm just starting a little load development.Been playing with 90 gr 777 and 300 gr T/C shockwaves.I'd be interested to hear about anyones successfull loads, any bullet/powder combos, patched roundball, conicals. .I'll be using this gun for deer with a T/C peep sight ,100 yd max. Thanks

Guess I better dig myself out early, since this IS the traditional forum as defined by Graybeard, you can disregard any jacketed or sabot loads, dont want anybody mad at me...plenty of time for that later!

Hi, I shoot the white mountain carbine with 1:38 & a peep as well. Best luck I had was with 90gr. GoexFF & either a 245gr horaday sabot or a 245gr power belt. Great accurracy out to 75-80 yards & a proven killer at 100yrds. I am going to try a few conicals of about that weight & see how they are as well.  Good Luck,  Mike

Thanks Mike! I wasnt sure if the lighter bullets would shoot with that twist, but now I'll put em on my list of things to try.

Hi and welcome.  The first WMC I had did real well with 80-85 gr pyrodex and a 320 grain maxiball.  Also did pretty good using T/C Breakaway Sabots with a 240 gr bullet and the 275 grain maxihunters weren't too bad either.  I kept the powder charge down cause the little gun tends to kick.  Didn't seem to like the heavier bullets either.  A friend talked me out of the rifle so I don't have it anymore.  I do however have one that's new in the box which I had planned to use with PRB's.  I know the twist is a little fast for them but it might be acceptable for short range hunting.  That's why I was asking Slamfire about him using PRB's in his and his accuracy.  One of these days I will get it out and give it a try.  Good luck.

Snicker,First off let me apologize for misspelling yer handle in my opening post.At 5'8" and 220 lbs the candy bar just naturally entered my head! Thanks for the input, the WMC is a  handy size and a quality piece of iron,it shows promise already.90 grns of fuel and a 300 grn bullet has been buckin some in the little carbine,so maybe the lighter bullets you guys are usin will be a good idea. Thanks!

I've had good accuracy with 50 grains of black, and a .490 PRB. The ball don't like being driven by my hunting charge of 75 grains. I've shot conicals acceptably with that heavier charge, and the 245 grain Buffalo Ballets, Black Belts (a lead precursor of the plated Power Belts) and 250 grain R. E. A. L. s cast from Hornady's buckshot alloy. I've not tried anything heavier, or encased in plastic.

Slamfire,Nice to see I may be able to shoot some RB in the WMC,sounds like 50 grs would be a good place to start.I have some RB and Hornady PA conicals for a mule ear I put together with a 1-66" twist,I'll give em a try.Sounds like a good short range coyote load. Thanks!

Timbolero, not to worry about the handle, lots of people do it.  Anyhow I'm going to break out the new WMC pretty soon and see how it does.  Good luck with yours.
