If anyone has used the 12 gauge wads and overshot wads sold by Knight, I finally found out what they are. The wads are made by BPI, and they're intended for use with Heavyshot. Midway has them in 12 ga 2 3/4" that hold about 1 1/2 ounces of shot, 3" that hold about 2 ounces, and 3 1/2" (the ones from Knight) that hold 2 1/2 ounces. They all pattern well from my TK2000 shotgun, and should cover doves, turkeys, and everything in between. I also bought some Winchester AA wads that hold about an ounce for my daughter to use (less recoil), and they work well, but if you want to use heavier charges the BPI's are the way to go. The foam overshot wads from Knight work great, and I've sent them an email to ask if they can be ordered seperately. Our crow season starts next weekend, and I need the practice before the October doves. I also just tried the Cleanshot powder in the shotgun and a T/C Omega. It's a beautiful thing, especially at cleaning time.

Come on guys - am I the only one who's pouring shot down a barrel?

I know it's not very popular, because I had a heck of a time finding the shotgun and the stuff to go with it. They're out there - but nobody has them available. I feel so alone!! :grin:

What we have tended to use were shotgun wads that you would typically load a shotshell with. All we did was to cut the cushion part off the bottom and just use the cup part. Worked ok for us.

I've never shot one of the Knight shotguns. I have a T/C Treehawk before it was discontinued. You're right they are not very popular and that is why you are having such a hard time finding not only the shotgun, but accessories as well. Most companies won't make one as they don't feel they are very cost-effective.

I don't know folks...I just can't cozy-up to stuffing plastic down my BP shotgun barrels.

I go for th 2F, Blue & Gray .125 over powder disc, B&G shot cushion, shot, then a B&G .025 overshot wad to top things off. Works for me and I can vary the amonut of powder and shot depending upon how the critters are flying/running that day in the field. Bought most of my supplies locally...but DGW's got everything you might need to go this route.

I love shooting a round of trap with a BP shotgun, but it sure takes a while to run 25. Slow and civilized...but what's the hurry right? :-)

That's part of my problem - the Blue and Gray overshot wads won't work well because the Knight barrel is backbored and they don't fit tight enough. And Knight doesn't sell their overshot wads seperately. You have to buy them in a package with the 3 1/2" wads, and I don't need any more of those right now.

Have you contacted the folks Chris put you in touch with? Did they have the sized overshot wads you need?

I don't know, but I sent email to Knight and called them, and they won't sell me the wads I want, (the ones that came with the gun), or tell me who manufactures them for Knight so I can get some. I ordered the ones from the link that Chris recomended, and I got them today. They are mad by Circle Fly and are exactly the same size, thickness, and material as the Blue and Grey wads I already had that slipped sideways in the barrel and let the shot roll out. I'm getting real frustrated here folks!

Jeez...I'm sorry Steve. I took a minute to look at the Circle-Fly's too...looked like they would work. Have you contacted Suzi (The Gun Works) about the problem?

This may sound dumb...but can a guy stuff a wad of cotton down or "angel hair" on top of the shot to hold it in place. Don't think it would hurt anything and it might work...? :roll:

Thanks for the help Chris. I guess the frustration comes from talking to Knight. You would think that they'd be more helpful. Anyway...one of the customer service people at Knight said to try tracing them and cutting them out of meat trays from the grocery store with an Exacto knife or something. Sounds time consuming, but how fast can you load a ML shotgun anyway? :grin: Guess I'll try that - my wife saved me a tray yesterday. I bought a bag of #6 shot, and my daughter and I are taking it out on Saturday to do a little crow hunting in the sugar cane fields, so I better get cuttin', huh? Can't wait for dove season this year - should be interesting. Thanks again for your help!

Those would be great, but I didn't see any for 12 gauge. I found a 3/4" leather punch from Tandy that would work, but the wife frowned at the $49 price tag. I tried to make a punch out of 3/4" copper pipe but when I got it sharp enough to cut through the foam cleanly, the edge folded over when it hit the pine board I put under it. Too soft. It worked, but only one time!! Aaaaahhh!

daddywpb, Some of the newer shotguns are bored for using shot cups rather than wads. I don't remember the particulars but the barrel diameter is different than a normal 12ga to accomadate the cup and this could be causing your problem.

I didn't know the owner of circle fly had died until I opened their link but they were very helpful at the nmlra shoot in Friendship Indana. I noticed on their web page at the bottom of the page(http://www.circlefly.com/muzzleloading.html) it said to call with questions. It could save you a lot of grief and frustration as well as allowing you to enjoy your scattergun.

Something else to keep in mind when using a front stuffin scattergun is to use a magnum or a plated shot. I've been cleaning the lead fouling out of mine for a couple of day's now. I never had any lead problems from a supository type shotgun but the fight on this smoke spitter will be memorable.

Thanks for the responce. I'm using the heavyshot shotcups. The only wad I'm using is an overshot. I'll go to the Circle Fly website and look around. The shot I have says 'chilled' shot. I assume that's harder than regular lead. I've seen the nickel plated shot on websites, but haven't tried any yet. I was thinking of using the plated shot along with some buffer for turkeys next year - need some range time for that one. I haven't had any trouble with lead in the barrel yet, but I can imagine that it's a grueling cleanup. Good luck!

Go to www.ballisticproducts.com for the wads for the TK2000. I purchased 100 for my gun. They are identical to the Knight wad.

I too contacted Knight for the over shot wad and was disappointed with their reply. Sorry I asked!! A guy I met in a Wal-Mart told me that he was purchasing them from Knight. I am using a card over the shot wad with no problems. They are standard 12 ga. I do not know who made them but they came in a bag with over the powder wads and over the shot wads.

Thanks for the info. Were you able to find the foam wads that come with the Knight shot cups on the BPI website? If you did, PLEASE let me know which ones they are so I can get some! My daughter and I were out on Saturday afternoon looking for crows - I burned some black powder, but no birds on the ground. Oh well, it made a nice cloud of smoke. We were in the same field where we hunted doves last season, and never saw any birds. On Saturday all we saw were doves - it was the crow's turn to hide. I don't think they are as dumb as we think they are!

I think I've been using the same ones that you're talking about. Thin white cards made by Blue and Grey. It's all I can find. We found a new spot to crow hunt, and when we drove out of there last weekend we spooked five rabbits on the road. So, this afternoon we're going to walk down the road, and see if we can get a couple - if the weather cooperates. We've been getting the typical torrential, build an Ark type summer rains every afternoon here. It would be worth it though - my wife's fried rabbit casserole sounds pretty good right now. Thanks again for the info.
