Remington Reduced Recoil in 30/06
« on: June 21, 2007, 05:23:03 AM »
Has anyone else shot the Remington Reduced Recoil rounds in their NEF-30/06? My 06 shoots 165 and 180 gr. reloads very well but the accuracy in the reduced loads is terrible- even at 50 yds. Was wondering if anyone else tried them.

Some guns need to be "shot in". You can find tricks in the FAQ's to reduce the break in time... These guns WILL shoot. Don't give up, take your time and keep shooting YOUR load. The gun will come around.

In this case it may be the ammo. The limited experience I've had with the Remington 30-06 Reduced load was helping someone at the range get their bolt action sighted in with it. He was all over the paper. After cleaning his barrel, don't think he'd ever used powder solvent on it, I shot a 3 inch group at 100 yards. Then shot two of my Hornady 165 gr spbt hand loads through it and they were touching. The 30-06 reduced load is after all a 30-30 round in a 30-06 case ... 170 gr round nose bullet at 30-30 velocity.

it's for my grandson and I'd be happy with 3 in at 100.

My .270 reduced recoil loads from Remington give good hunting accuracy---1/1/2" at 100 yards is no problem, and all at .243 recoil levels. This is from a bolt-action, but no reason they won"t shoot in a handi-rifle either. I think these would be great loads to start a youth on.
