WANTED: golf ball size cannon barrel for project.
« on: June 21, 2007, 04:16:20 PM »
Hi, I'm new to the forum and hope someone can help me.

I want to buy a low cost ( less than $300) barrel to build a cannon that will shoot golf balls.  Length should be between 1 and 2 feet. I  can't  spend a lot of money....  but I want to be safe.  All I need is the barrel.  I want to build the rest myself.  I have made some light weight cannons in the past out of steel tubing and have several years experience shooting cannon in my back yard.  I am fortunate to have 1000 empty acres behind my 1 acre.

My standard load for a golf ball cannon is 1 to 2 tablespoons of "Pyrodex RS"  or black powder, wrapped in aluminum foil, tamped into the barrel with a wooden dowel. Next:  3 to 6 tablespoons of all purpose flour wrapped in foil like a burrito tamped into the barrel tight.  I use a wire 'pick' to insert  the fuse through the foil. This load is LOUD and can be fired as a blank or topped off with a golf ball.  The flour burns and adds smoke and the foil is destroyed.  Good Clean Fun!

Lesmoore , have you had any luck yet in your g.b. cannon search? For a quality cannon over a foot in length in golf ball caliber you may be hard pressed keeping your price under $300.00. Brooks has a beautiful  little mountain howitzer in g.b. caliber, But it is a little under a foot in length. The price is also about $450.00. Try looking through the board sponsor's  I'm sure one of them could make you what you want if you contact them, you may have to pay a little more than $300.00 though. Good luck in your search.  Tracy
