Henry Barrel Band
« on: November 25, 2007, 08:36:00 AM »
Got a Henry H001 from wally world last week. Fun little gun, already killed a rabbit, squirrel, pigeon and numerous junk-birds with it. A few gripes. Wish the receiver was steel not aluminum so it would last longer down the road. The barrel bands are PLASTIC along with the entire front sight. The one holding the forearm keeps coming loose and I'm afraid Ill break it or strip it if it gets too tight. Henry sells brass ones but they are for their Octagon-barreled Golden Boys. I want to know where I can get a steel or maybe brass one for their round-barreled Lever Acton 22s. Anybody have an idea where I can acquire one? midwayusa.com only sells sights in their Henry section. THANKS

You might try http://www.brownells.com/ they carry a lot of barrel bands, if they don't have one specific to your rifle, they may be able to offer one that will work, give em a call or email, their techs are very helpful.

Another place to try is http://e-gunparts.com/ they may have one that's metal from an older model. ;)

You can get a brass or black metal barrel band and front sight from Henry. The black ones are painted like the receiver. I do not think that there is currently a STEEL replacement for the barrel band. There is a STEEL Front sight assembly that is being made by a member of GlockTalk. He sells them on ebay and auctionarms.com

I did a full report on these on another board. I will givve you a brief overview. I didn't care for the steel front sight. I use the Henry black metal sight and barrel band along with a williams replacement rear sight. If you are interested in the replacements you can call Henry. These are not expensive and customer service will know exactly what you are asking for.

Unfortunately, I don't think Brownell's has these replacement parts.

I would go ahead and get the steel front site and the metal barrel band if you can find one. I did a search on the only one I could find is the brass one for the Golden Boy. Give their cs dept a call 718-499-5600.

I sent a email to the president of henry about the barrel band for you. He should be back in contact with me soon. I also asked him about the sites for you. As soon as he replies Ill post what info he provides.

I havnt tired brownells yet. I did email Henry also but I havnt gotten a reply yet. The plastic sight doesnt botther me much because I have a scope on it. Getting the forearm tight with a metal band is my main concern. Thanks All

Well its settled. I exchanged a few nice emails with Anthony at Henry Rifles explaining my problem and it was his idea to send me a new forearm and metal band free of charge. Now THATS customer service!

Yes it is. Henry is known for that. I got mine back also. They said if I need anything else to call the president of the company a call. Sounds like your ready to go small game hunting. Also Whiskey101 has posted some info on the metal front site. I put it as a sticky and I have some of the same info in the FAQ.

Well I got the package from Henry with my new forearm and metal barrel band. After struggling to get the first forearm off I couldn't get the plastic front sight off. If that doesn't come off the barrel band doesnt. I said what the heck and shaved some of the top of it off since I don't use iron sights. Put the new one on, slip on the metal band and began to tighten it with my little screwdriver when it stripped. I couldnt believe it. I hadnt tightened it as much as I did the plastic one and It gave out. $&%*! Well now what do i do i thought. Then after examining the plastic band i noticed that the threads Arent plastic. Its a metal Insert. I put it back on and tightened it a little more than I was and it seems to be working okay. The part of the forearm that mates with the receiver also fit a little bit tighter than the original. This and tightening the plastic band a little more seemed to have solved my problem...for now.

If it is broke send it back and if you want they will fix the front site also if you send the whole gun back. It should be free as it was before.

Im not sure they could fix a stripped barrel band. Id feel bad if I emailed and complained again since they were nice enough to send me the band and forearm free without me asking for it.
The front sight blade doesn't matter to me since I only use the scope.
