front ramp sight..what attaches it...
« on: June 25, 2007, 04:07:06 PM »
I have a front ramp that came unattached exposiong a small brass rod imbedded in the strap on the end of the barrel the ramp seemed to have an epoxy or other adhesive ? holdiing it on ? ... it is a clements and I assume it got knocked off in transit...
what holds them on... what methods of atachment are usually used ? should the gun go to clements or can someone else reattach the sight.

Is there an adhesive that would be a proper solution to the problem ?
please advise..
waited a while to get this in and now cannot shoot it.
Thanks ... signed ... waiting to shoot in Louisiana..

IN case it helps any one else :
linebaugh is said to screw his down and solver solder the front sight down.  Clements uses a mounting post fitted into a drillled recess in the ramp, machines the ramp to fit the contours of hte barrel and then silver solders the ramps front and rear for about 1/8"x 1/4". if the weld of the silver solder is broken it appears to e a porous material..
if the sight is knocked off, the silver soldering has to be repeated and the finish on the barrel is damaged such that it must be re blued.

Also it is worthy of note that Mr. Clements offered to repair the front sight free and blue it for free and for me to only cover the shipping, I am the third owner of the revolver and could not believe it.
I plan on making him accept something in return, as it was not his fault by any means.
what a man !!
Hope this helps someone doing a search or having the same question.. evidently sights can come off... silver solder welds can be broken.

Good to hear a craftsman takes pride in his work and continues to do so.
