Install new Grips
« on: July 03, 2007, 08:55:59 AM »
Hey All:
Got in some  imitation  Stag Grips for my Uberti .45.    They match up on the  Backstrap fairly well, but show a little thickness and to much depth (less than 1/16") where they meet the frame.

This being a new venture for me I'm not sure how to start.  They will be a one piece grip (no screw thru the middle) when finished.
Question is  -  do I sand and file on the inside of the grips only and avoid doing any sanding to the outside of the grips?

Thanks for any help on this project......

Fit them to the gripframe first, then sand/shape to your hand afterwards.

BlkHawk73   Thanks:

The fitting turned out to be the hard part.  The Center Block which the two grips glue to was just a tad narrow.   One grip snubbed up well, while the other didn't make contact.   I had to build it up.  All I had was 15 - minute (MID-CURE) epoxy.   But it seems stout enough.   I put masking tape on the Back-strap and replaced the grips, then did the sanding and filing.   Now to figure how to buff it out.

Well here is the results of my efforts.    There's still a little detail work I can do, but I like them so far.
