WOW what a fun barrel! If you don't own one of these you need to.
I shot 3 different loads through my 20" 460 today, this is the first outing for this barrel. Recoil was less than I expected, whilst stout this barrel didn't have the excessive muzzle flip you get with powerful bottlenecked cases in the ENCORE. The recoil pulse was pretty much straight back making the rifle very manageable, especially with two of my sons unused diapers between my shoulder and buttstock
One thing I did notice was between firing loads of differing velocity at 100yds, that the SLOWER loads shot to a much much higher point of impact. When shootin fast loads the POI would move downward rather dramatically.
Three loads were fired
1 was a 300grn "mystery" load in a 45LC brass, Velocity was 1500 FPS and the group was 3" at 100
2 loading was a 300grn Hornady MAG XTP over a charge of 38.0grs of H-110 in a 460 casing, velocity was 2025 FPS with a 2.75" group at 100,
note that this is 200 fps faster than the listed velocity on hodgons webpage for this particular start load in a handgun 3 was a bit of an oddity, A 250 grn Spitzer muzzle loader bullet over a charge of AA1680, ignition was very inconsistent and as a result velocities ranged from 1800 FPS to 1200 FPS. But in spite of this this load produced the best group of the bunch 1.25"
I'm confident that with a bit more load development that accuracy will be stellar with the above loads and get well into 45/70 horsepower ranges.
