8MM Mauser Rifle barrel lenghts??
« on: May 27, 2003, 02:23:01 PM »
Which 8MM / 7MM / 6.5MM barrel length do you like to shoot more or like better the mauser carbine 23" or mauser long rifle 29"??  Do you collect more of one than the other?                                               BigBill

I was just wondering since i just purchased some 29" barrel 8mm mausers and haven't shot them yet but I have shot 8mm/23" barrels. But I like my 6.5 swede 29" its super accurate like little artillery.  I try to stay equal in amount of long and short barreled rifles of each caliber.

Hey Lg. William!
If you were to loan me your long barreled Swede, I'd let you know how it compares to my m38 carbine. Hah, ah???  I kinda like the looks of the German K98's also as compared to the Persian long rifles.......just my taste in shorter barreled rifles I guess???

I have two 38's now one husqvarna and one oberndorf maybe next trip to the range I'll take one along with my CG M96 and compare at 100yds and see how they do but I'm willing to bet both at 100yds are equal its the longer distance is where the extra inches of barrel matters. Of course the shooter factor and barrel condition has to be considered too but I'll benchrest both exactly the same it might be interesting but very close competition.                                                      BigBill

I like the long barrels.
Especially when you have a bayonet on it too!
With my 91 Nagant and the long spike attached,
I could poke ya' in tha' eye from bout nine feet away!!!

Actually, I shoot better with a longer sight radius,
I can focus on the sights a bit better.

from a collecting standpoint, it makes no difference,

S.Sumner how long is that bayo on the 91?? I don't have any 91 bayo's but if i remember correctly she's a long one.  Perfect for reaching out and getting personal too.  I think there is a lot more 23" barrels out there for sale than 29" barrels and it just made me look harder for 29" barreled guns but they are there I just have to read the fine print with my glasses on.                                                                         BigBill

With the bayonet fixed, it adds 17 inches to the length
of the rifle. It feels like you have a spear in your hands
instead of a rifle! It actually is pretty well balanced though.

A note of history about the Nagant bayonet:
The strange "Chisel Tip Point" was made that way to
be a screw-driver to disassemble the rifle with!
Why they kept it on the folding bayonet carbine
is a mystery that the world may never know!!!!
