Ruger Hawkeye 270 in green houge overmold stock.

Hi. Does anyone have one of these new ruger hawkeye rifles in a houge stock? How does it shoot? I have just ordered the green one in 270.  I have read ablsoutly zero reviews on it. I know the stock is not a high priced stock but I like the feel of an overmold.  I know it is pillar bedded with aluminum inserts and the barrel is supposed to be free floated.  I orderd mine in stainless steel. Same price for either stainless or blue $619. I would like to hear your comments if you have one of these in either 270 (green stock) or 3006 (brown stock).
I am hoping to get your shooting review/test at the range for accuracy.

Had a chance to shoot the new Hawkeye yesterday. It is as accurate as I had hoped it would be. I was shooting a hand load of  RL22 and a mag primer and a 130gr hornaday bullet. The powder charge was max per my hornaday manual. I easily got 3/4 inch groups with it.  I also had a box of Winchester 130gr silvertips.  They shot to just about the same point of impact and just as tight.  This gun has the Hogue green overmold stock. The stock fit the action very well.  It was better than I thought it would be.  It is a free floated barrel.  I like the pillar bedding of this stock very much. I believe it is the excellent stock that makes this gun shoot so well.  It gives the gun a feel of being stable. With both hand loads and factory loads shooting to almost the same point of impact tells me the rifle is stable.
There were no surprises.  When I picked the gun up I used there trigger gage to check the pull.  It broke at 4lb. Not a bit of creep. I do not need any better trigger than this. I like it exactly that way for a hunting rifle. My shooting session was very limited.  It was 95 degrees and the sweat running in my eyes made it hard to focus. The gun got hot fast to.  I only shot 2 groups of 3 shots for both loads.  I put a Bushnell legend 5X15X40 AO on the rifle.  The scope is pleanty clear for my use.  I just need to see if it holds its zero.  I have had problems with less expensive scopes from Bushnell in the past not holding zero. So far this one is sighted in and we will see. Thought you would like a quick look at how the new Hawkeye shoots.  My feeling after packing up and going home was I gotta get me one of those Alaskan Rugers with a hogue stock.  My dealer says they can get them and they want $800 for it.  I hated ruger rifles in the past.  I could not get one to shoot for me.  Same with the people I shoot and hunt with.  Always got medeocer results.  Not with this new one though. Ruger is back on my list.

glad to see you tried a Ruger again.   i think they are a very good rifle with excellent metallurgy.   the Model 77 Mk II's did need trigger jobs, which i've done per www.centerfirecentral.com  on mine and my buddy's.     that was what made them shoot better.    but i admit, it's good to hear that their new Hawkeye is a step up in the trigger and accuracy department right out of the box.   they are costly enough to merit a decent trigger and stock.    if you bought the stainless then i wouldn't bother buying an 'Alaskan'.    you've already got a very good rifle in a very good caliber.

Yes this new hawkeye is a nice improvement over the old m77.  It is accurate and feels good to hold. It is the nicest rifle I have.  It is true that my past ruger experience was not good. I did have a trigger job done on that rifle in an attempt to get it to shoot better.  Then I had it glass bedded.  Nothing worked.  That is a thing of the past now. My new ruger rifle has no problems.  I have always liked the way ruger actions worked and the way they set up there rings for scope mouting.  It makes them attractive in my humble opinion.  I am satisfied with this one. It shoots good and feels good.
