WOW!!!!!!! Were they shooting a steel plate? I never thought that was possible for a round to come directly back at you. He must have had a angle on his shoulder.

I have a personal experience to share...
I was shooting behind a friends home one day with two friends and my brother. We where shooting at the end of a 5' high stack of logs. My friend had shot at this make shift back stop all summer with no problems.

I had just started shooting my 357 mag when one shot made it thru and we all herd it hit trees to the right, right beside and behind us, before my brother said OUCH!!  That slug had come completely around and struck my brother 5 feet behind me!! No one was hurt as the bullet had lost almost all of its momentum...but it was still hot!!

My brother loves to tell the story of the day his brother shot him!!!

Just goes to show, you can never be too careful and about anything can happen!!

 GREAT find Tim!!!

My personal experience was with a friend on a blackpowder trail walk, he was shooting round balls in a percussion lyman GPR, he apparently dry balled, loaded ball with no powder behind it, so he removed the nipple and I added a couple grains of 4F priming powder that I use with my flinter, just enough to push the ball out, he reseated the ball, then aimed at the base of a maple tree and shot the ball out, it hit the tree and bounced right back and hit him in the leather possibles bag he was wearing and then fell to the ground at his foot!! It carried enough energy that a hit to the head or eye wouldn't have resulted in an happy ending for anyone it might have hit. :'(  As CW said, anything can happen, so be careful out there. ;)

I can't really tell what happened from the video but it looked (and sounded like) the bullet fragmented and came right back at him. I had this happen to me about 10 years ago. We were at a local shooting spot where people dumped things (illegally) and there was a lawnmower block which I decided to shoot with my 45 acp from about 10-15 feet away. The bullet fragmented and one large piece hit my buddy in the leg and one hit me in the side. Neither broke the skin but it left a large welt on my side. My brother shot a toilet at a dump with a shotgun one time and several of the pellets bounced back and gave him a rude awakening. The guy in the video is fortunate that he didn't get seriously hurt as I assume that was a 50 BMG. Charlie

I'd say all three of those fellas were very lucky. :o
The caption above the video is...

Guy catches .50 BMG ricochet to the head
A guy shooting what looks like a Barrett .50 catches a ricochet in his hearing protection.

As a teen I had a S&W 22 cal CO2 pistol.  I had shot a pellet at short range at a branch and it came right back and smacked me in the forehead.  Another similar incident occurred when I was shooting a friend's 44 magnum Super Blackhawk.  Apparently a bit of the bullet jacket shaved off as it passed through the forcing cone and hit my friend who was standing directly to my left.  It hit his lip, almost inside of it.  It was very strange really.  The piece was only the size of a sliver, but it could just as easily been his eye.

AWaY back in 1958 I was shooting a junker snubby of another guys.  Not sure now how I was holding it. But, still have that piece of lead in the left palm.

About four yrs ago two of us were shooting p/dogs with my Sako .223 on a 105 degree day. We'd been shooting a lot of them so the barrel was hot.
Buddy went behind us to take a leak and came back to tell me there's lots of 'em back there. I had one in the chamber and left it there the 10-1 min it took to move and set up.

Soon as I fired smoke hit me in the face and eye.  Contact lens had unburnt powder embedded in it!! Case was stuck in the chamber and blown primer from things being too hot is what the gunsmith said. Once the gun cooled off the case came out easy. But, the contact lens was ruined. It's best to pay attention when you're told to ALWAYS wear eye protection!!

PS:
another time a bunch of us duck hunters were standing around shooting the bs.
When a duck flew over. I was shooting a hammer type 12ga mag. about 4lbs. Kicking brute for sure.

When the bird flew on I up and was going to shoot when someone else did and my thumb hurt like H. Shaking it, slung blood all over us. One of them said:  "e's been shot!!" Wow, that spooked us all.  We looked at it and decided that was NOT a gunshot wound.
In the conclusion it was decided I'd let my thumb slip off the hammer and it gouged the cuticle real deep. Oh man did it ever hurt and bleed. But, after we'd figured it out, it was rather funny.
