Well this weekend, I finally made a decision to order a barrel for my new Encore stainless frame. I've been pondering which caliber for about a month now, and finally got the order placed.
I've been out of the gun 'business' for 2-3 years (long story...) but am now back 'in the game'. Last year I only bow hunted, but this year will be with archery, muzzle loader and handgun. Due to certain circumstances, I really thought I was through hunting, prior to last year. Done. However, as it turns out, I am not. And does it ever feel good to be 'back' in it.
So, I now have a stainless Encore frame with barrel on order and a scope set back for me. Can't wait to get it all together!
The barrel I've ordered is a stainless 15" FRO (T/C custom shop) barrel that'll be drilled and tapped for a 6 screw base and no sites. Chambering is the 280 Ackley Improved 40 degree shoulder. Standard taper, no brake.
Really looking foward to getting it and spending some time at the range.
In the past I've had 7-30 Waters, 30 Herret, 30-30 AI on the Contender platform, and 308 Win, 30-06 JDJ, and 7 Rem Mag barrels on the Encore platform. All in handguns.
Got really tired of fireforming the wildcats, so with Noslers introduction of 280 AI brass, that one jumped up to the top of my list. I also was keenly interested in the 6.5-284. That one will just have to wait a bit longer. When I finally do get a 6.5-284, it may be a 16" tube and be on a heavy taper, with a 1:8 twist. Since T/C doesn't offer stainless barrels in 6.5 caliber, this one may very well be my 'excuse' to go the full custom route.
The scope I'm gonna attach to the 280AI will be a Burris 3x-12 AO. Really looking forward to shooting it.
