Handi Rifle - Wood Or Synthetic Version For Best Accuracy?

OK, I've decided to buy a Handi Rifle.  I want to end up with a nice 30-30 for deer hunting.  I like the look and durability of the synthetic stock/forearm, but this version is not available in 30-30.  I'll have to order the wood version, and get the synthetic stock/forearm from H&R.

Or, I could order the synthetic 22 hornet, and just get a 30-30 barrel from H&R.  This I like.

But, I wanted to ask here if the synthetic stock/forearm version of a gun will shoot as well, on average, as the wood version.  Is synthetic too light for steady off-hand shooting without a scope?  Does the synthetic forearm "bend" easily when being held as to change the pressure it makes against the barrel?

Any opinions appreciated.  Thanks.

Some wood stocks are lighter than the plastic, it just doesn't make any difference.  Larry

Many people here will say that the wood stocks are more accurate. I have both and have not really noted any difference at all. I say get what you would prefer and shoot the heck out if it.

Personally, I find that if I am shooting offhand, a wood stock with a bull barrel is eaiser to hold on target (in the short run...not like holding it on target for 4 or 5 minutes).  I think the added weight prevents the gun from being "moved" off target eaisly from things such as wind or pulling the trigger.

Now, if I'm shooting from a fixed position or a shooting stick, it doesn't seem to make much of a difference.

But again, this is just me.

Big Mac, I changed a 223 from wood to synthetic stock,didn't make any difference and shot as good as ever.I bought mine online from Choate machine & tool and got the H&R Monte carlo stock for $35 and the forend for $16 and that includes sling swivel studs,forget what the shipping was.Click on shop now,then product categories,and then H&R varmint stocks.They don't bend any as I've shot mine off of sandbags,and even attach a bipod and it shoots great.

My 30-30 is adult, synthetic, low comb with iron sights. Did they quit making this configuration, or is it out of stock where you are shopping?

They don't offer the synthetic 30-30 any more, it's not on their web site nor in their 2007 catalog.

That's too bad. My syn 30-30 is a great lightweight gun for carrying in the woods. Just have to watch out for that 'branches on hollow plastic' sound in the brush, but usually if you're bulling through brush you're already making too much noise.
