870 Express Super Mag slug barrel question
« on: August 05, 2007, 11:19:56 AM »
I am a beginner with slugs and want to get set up this Fall. I have an 870 Super Express Mag that handles 2 3/4" through 3 1/2" shells. I definitely want a scoped setup and plan to buy a cantilever barrel. Will the standard Remington barrels work with my gun? If so, any suggestions and recommendations would be appreciated. Also, what kind of scope rings do you recommend? Thanks.

You can buy cantilever slug barrels for your 870 from either Remington, Hastings, or Mossberg.
The Hastings are supposed to be the best and the Mossbergs are the cheapest.  The Mossberg barrel I used shot great.
Any rings should be fine.
You'll need to buy alot of different brands and loads of the slugs to see which shoots best.  It's can be a pretty big price to pay on the front end, but worth it.
My barrel/gun liked Winchester Partition Golds.  A buddy of mine shoots lights-out with Winchester Platinums.

Good luck with whatever set-up you go with !!

TribReady - Thanks for your reply and advice. I ordered a Hastings barrel for my 870. Should get it in a few days. Looking forward to getting set up and maybe taking a deer this fall.
