Lee Enfield .308 mag

I have a Lee Enfield Jungle carbine in .308. Does anyone know where I can find magazines for this rifle?

Well first of all an Enfield No5 "Jungle carbine" was never made in any other chambering than .303. If it is a genuine No5 Enfield then it's been converted and most likely to 7.62 Nato and not .308 Winchester. If it is a converted No4 or a No5 then you need to find a magazine which was originally intended for either the L39, L42,Enforcer, Envoy or a Parker-Hale T4. The genuine british Military magazines had a CR prefixed part number stamped on them. There was also another maker who's "Sterling" but their magazines were not of as good quality and often lead to feeding problems in my limited experience. Any conversion of a No4 or No5 Enfield to 7.62 Nato requires subtle machining modifications to the magazine well of the actions. This removes the feeding problems often found on conversions which have been done on the cheap.

I'm betting that it is a converted 2A or 2A1.Look on the butt socket band and see what it says there.It was probably one of those done by Gibbs Rifle Co.

      Not that I wish to hide, just thought that on my first hunting site which I signed up to that "Brithunter" was better  ;D

The markings on the band under the bolt handle are: Rifle 7.62mm 2A R.F.I.  1965

Then it's not and never was a No5 Jungle Carbine but an Model 2A made in Ishapore which has been chopped and it's also highly likely that the Gibbs company did the dirty deed. RFI or Ishapore rifles use a differnt magazine to others and it seems thta finding spares or even replacements is not easy. The only person I knew who brought on of these cut down Ishaopres ahd to restock it as the Gibbs affair came apart when he shot it. I can only hope yours is rather better put together.

Ok, I was going to say I have an extra if you didn't have one, but I'd like to hang on to it if you do. I like my carbine for what it is. Mine is a 2A built by Gibbs Rifle Company. I recently bought a chamber insert to convert it to 7.62x39 but I didn't leave the insert in long enough and it pulled out with the empty cartridge used to seat the insert. Loctite was used to hold the insert in long enough to fireform it with the first round and the little bit of additional loctite I used to hold it caused my insert to be a little on the snug side when you chamber a round. Recoil is nothing with 7.62x39 but they will not cycle thru the magazine very well being they are so short. Just as easy to use it as a single shot.

Some Gibbs rifles did lose an upper forearm upon firing but I am not sure what model that was.Your 2A was the first of two models made by Ishapore in 7.62X51NATO.It was followed by the model 2A1.The only difference was the rear sight.The 2A went out to 1200 yards being the original sight calibrated for .303British.Then they recalibrated the rear sight for the 7.62 round and it only went to 800 yards.
This was the basis for the Gibbs"Quest" rifle.These are good actions.They are accurate rifles.Good target or hunting piece.If you desire to scope it I suggest the no gunsmithing scope mount from S&K Industries.This is an all steel mount unlike the B Square mount which is aluminum.Takes about 5 minutes to install.If you do so be sure to Loc-Tite it or it will shoot loose.Expensive scopes not required.A good $40 Simmons 3X9 will suffice.

I've tried 2 different mounts on mine and neither one would work. Next step would be a scout mount.

Thanks for the info guys. Guess I'll just keep hunting for a spare mag. I like the rifle and it shoots real good. I have taken plenty of deer with it.
