Which is the bigger screw up? Althought Tanzania is gowing down the wrong path here, at least it's still safe. Maybe they just want to oust Botswana as the most expensive safari destination? Each year that goes by the governments and  game management throughout Southern Africa seem to become more screwed up. If there was ever a time to get a hunt completed in Africa it will be in the next few years. The way these governments change rules regulations and prices, mid stream you better do a safari sooner then later. It's also best to understand your deposit policy 100% as well. I would never suggest you send deposit money direct to anyone in Southern Africa for the hunt. Here's a bit of news additional news

Tanzania Hunting Situation

Last Friday, SCI heard that trophy fees and concession fees in Tanzania had been raised significantly. After doing some fact-finding, SCI found that this was apparently true, by as much as 500% in some cases. Today, SCI sent a letter to the Tanzanian Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism asking him to investigate these increases and to consider changes. We will keep you informed of the situation in the coming days. As always, please check with your outfitter before any upcoming trips as outfitters may have no choice but to raise fees to stay in business.

U.S. State Department Issues New Warning for Travel to Zimbabwe

The State Department has issued a new travel warning for U.S. citizens who are planning to visit Zimbabwe. The travel warning states that individuals should limit their time in crowded cities such as Harare and Bulawayo, but they should also be aware of growing violence in rural communities. Military suppression of dissent against the government is becoming more regular with the government issuing statements that severe abuses of force will continue to occur. The State Department announced: “The Government frequently uses road blocks to enforce order. Road blocks can be particularly dangerous, and extreme caution should be used when approaching them. Travelers should comply with instructions from police or other security officials to stop at road blocks.” Please read the full Travel Warning at http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/pa/pa_3234.html . And as always, please check with your Outfitter before traveling to hunt.

Read my new thread, I'm on my way to Tanz tomorrow! I've spoken with the company owner myself within the last 24 hours. While some trophy fees have indeed increased it is mostly the cats and elephant. concession fees have also increased.
All these hikes have been challenged in a court of due process as I type. Though the hikes are still in effect until that ruling comes down.
Luckily for me the safari company I employed is reputable and have agreed to stand by the contract we have signed with the original costs. I haven't lion on the license nor elephant so the hikes are a moot point to me.
I am howeve ecstaticic I am booked for 2007 and not 2008!
