just got me a 243 What bullet works best

Got me a 24 inch bull 243. Getting  ready to place an order at midway. What bullet shoots best out of these.  Shooting paper & coyotes  Iwas thinking about some hornady vmaxs. Let me know what you guys think.

Congratulations:

They are good shooters and you'll enjoy it...Besides your V-maxes I would try some 55 and 95 grain Combined Technologies Ballistic Silver tips....They shot exceedingly well out of mine.

My .243 is young, not enough down the tube yet to really see what it will do, but so far it seems to like the 75 grain V-Max over the 65's ... pushed by IMR4895. ~Ace~

75 grain v max with IMR 4831 is a winner. My latest mix is 85 grain speer  square base with     H 4350.   TVC 15

in all honesty:   you have to 'ask' your own rifle!   it is true that every rifle is a law unto itself, as you may have seen elsewhere.   

i'd order sierra's and hornady's if going hunting for coyotes.  i'd order hornady's in 80 gr' weight at most.    the sierra's are generally known for lighter-jacketing and their boattails may be what you want in that brand if going for shots beyond 350 yards.   you may want to try nosler's, but they'll probably cost you a fair deal more than hornady's.

do not use a magnum primer.     Accurate Arms 4350 works well for us loading for a buddy's .243.    it is a tack-driving Model 700 using Sierra's 100 gr btsp.

Sounds like they shoot just about anything good. I think Im gunna start with the 65 grn vmaxes, & maybe the combined tech ballistic tips. Another ?  the combined tech ballistic tip, is that a deer round??    Thanks for all the replys

Yes...The 95 grainer is a deer round...but pretty good on paper too...and the 55 grainer is a varmint bullet...both of these groups are from the same barrel...

hello...i settled on a 90 grain speer spitzer..over imr 4350..my goal was to use a soft point in the 80-90 grain area..i tried a hornady 87 grainer over h-4350...a sierra 85 grainer over imr 4064...wouldn't shoot very well..i don't know if i finally broke the barrel in or what...but when i went to the speer it finally started shooting decent...

I found that my 243 shot the 65 grain bullets good with imr-4064, but the sweet spot was quite small.  The imr-4064 didn't work very well at all with anything over 75 grains.  I switched to imr-4350 and it does well with heavier bullets as well as the lighter ones.  I suspect they are not traveling as fast, but to me the accuracy is more important.

I have had best accuracy with the 100 Nos BT and IMR 4350 powder.

trapperjack...your probably right with the 4064 shooting lighter bullet's better...i have a 22/250 & was hoping for the "ole" maybe this powder will work in two caliber's...as usual nope...my gut told me imr 4350 in the 1st place !!

Thirty years ago I used 4064 exclusively in the 6mm Remington and 30-06.  Now I believe it has taken a back seat to 4350 as far a versatility and overall accuracy.
