I have two 11-87's. One is a 20 ga. Premier with a 26" field barrel. The other is a Sportsman Deer 12 ga. it has a 21" barrel fully rifled barrel w/ cantilever scope mount. I really like the 11-87's. Never had any problems with them at all.

hellacatcher, NY Hunter just gave you his endorsement, now go buy it! Never enough Remmys!

On another note, I'm tempted to change my avatar to a Stihl chainsaw, if only to counter NY Hunters "husky"  ;D

Atleast we like the same rifles/shotguns  8)

I bought an 11-87 last season after good recommendations from people on this site. 12 guage, rifled barrel, laminated thumbhole stock, cantilever scope mount. Different purpose than you are looking for but I have been very happy with the gun, very accurate, and haven't had a jam or ftf yet. Definately a step up from the mossberg 9200 I was using.

Lets see if I can explain my thing on this. Last Jan. I lost my little finger on my left hand. Had been turkey hunting with a NEF turkey gun. When hunting this spring I found out that I didn't have the grip in the left hand I once had. When I shot the guns sling stud would come back and dig a hole in my fore finger on my left hand. Now I like a sling on a turkey gun. My thought is where the sling is located on the 11-87 and it comes in a thumb hole witch I think would give me a better grip from my right hand. Do I make sense or just wanting a new gun?

I used  a Rem 1100 then my old Mossberg Ultra mag for years.  Found a good buy on a used 11-87 super mag so I bought it.  Used it to take one turkey and went back to the Mossberg.  I walk a lot and the Mossy is lighter and I can take the recoil for a couple of shots a year.  Both have the sling swivel on the forend cap. The 11-87 has a lot less recoil and is pleasure to shoot but not to carry. The stock had been shortened on the 1187 so I put a slip-on pad on it too.  It now has two recoil pads, which really cushions the shoulder.  When we could take two turkeys in one day, I used the 1100 with 2 3/4" shells. I would shoot the fartherest turkey first and shoot the close one flying.(in the head)  If you can hit a quail, you can head shoot a turkey flying.    It never hurts to have a spare gun, in case a friend wants to go hunting with you.

Afriend of mine sells "Husky's" and has a bumper sticker.

As for the 11-87 , if the weight is not a problem for you, then you will much enjoy

LOL @ that bumper sticky. I'm a Stihl man for life, I like my chainsaws to resemble a Rem 870, tough as nails! *I had to get a Remington comment in there in order to stay on topic as much as possible  :D

hellacatcher, just get the 11-87 and enjoy. Let us know how it works out!

It works very well. Shot almost every 12ga I have and my index finger is still intact. I can hardly believe how well it patterns right out of the box. If ol Tom gets with in 50yrds he is mine. One more Rem. in the closet starting to look good.
