OSHA Proposed Changes
« on: July 02, 2007, 01:05:12 PM »
The NSSF (National Shooting Sports Foundation) just released the message below

Wayne
============================
YOUR ACTION NEEDED IMMEDIATELY . . . Proposed changes to an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulation pose a serious threat to the firearms and ammunition industry. Two proposed changes in particular would force retailers to shut down and evacuate their store when a thunderstorm approaches and frisk customers for matches and lighters as they enter the premises. NSSF, the National Association of Firearms Retailers and the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute are encouraging everyone in our industry to take action and learn more about this very serious threat.

Good news - Update from the NSSF (National Shooting Sports Foundation)

INDUSTRY EFFORTS INSTRUMENTAL . . . Thanks to the efforts of NSSF, the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute, their respective firearm and ammunition manufacturer and retailer members and the NRA-ILA Grassroots division, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has granted a 60-day extension in which to submit comments on its proposed explosives regulations (http://nssf.org/share/PDF/FedReg041307.pdf). The hot-button issue was discussed in great detail on many radio and television networks, including the Rush Limbaugh Show (http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_070607/content/01125110.guest.html). The new deadline for submitting written comments is Sept. 10. NSSF, SAAMI and the National Association of Firearms Retailers will conduct a more thorough review of the proposed regulations and will continue discussions with OSHA. OSHA's proposed regulations still pose a serious threat to the firearms and ammunition industry. Industry members are, therefore, still encouraged to take action by submitting their own comments on the proposed regulations to OSHA by Sept. 10.
