Scope & Mount for Ruger Blackhawk - 357 w/ 4.5" bbl
« on: June 26, 2007, 09:22:58 AM »
Any suggestions for a scope mount and an inexpensive scope for a 4 5/8" 357 Blackhawk?

Never shot a scoped pistol, so I thought I'd try it out.  Thanks.

Gotta decide if you want a soildly mounted mount which will require removing the rear sight and drilling & tapping the topstrap or a on/off clamp on style first.  I prefer a good solid mount and use Leupold mounts on my BH's if they get scoped.  I like the redfield rings too for them.
For a scope...inexpensive get's you just that, a low cost scope which usually will equate will lower quality too.  You don't need to spend $00_ but expect over $100 easily.  While I prefer Burris I have had great luck with a Bauch & Lomb (now Bushnell Elite).  Has withstood some good heavy .41 mag loads.   The cheap stuff may not hold up to recoil.

Pretty sure I don't want to D&T it.

Would it be easier to scope an older S&W Model 19?

i've got a gp 100 with a sollid scope mount that was not drilled and tapped. in fact ,i installed the mount in no time.
it uses the rear sight holes and the then the front sight blade is removed and a blade that comes withe mount is
put in. i'll try and find the mount's name. dan

I have a 6.5" Blackhawk 41Mag that I tried scope with a clamp on B-Square mount and it would not hold solid but went with a Weigand weaver style mount that had to drill and tap the topstrap and it is solid.  Don't waste your time and money on the barrel clamp on mounts they won't stay put.
