Remington 7400 lubrication questions
« on: September 18, 2007, 08:13:43 PM »
I recently acquired a Remington Model 7400 Weathermaster .30-06. From what I understand the Weathermaster Series was made for only one year, and were available in .270 Winchester and .30-06 Springfield.

So far I have shot 20 rounds through this slightly used Rifle and am pleased with the results. However I do have a question on lubrication. I downloaded an owners manual from the Remington web site (and printed it out) but it does not give much detail about lubrication.

Do I need to keep the operating rod that is housed under the forend lubricated like I do on my Remington Model 1100? In addition how much and where do I need to lubricate the Bolt and rotating Bolt Head on this Rifle?

Any insight from Remington 7400 owners will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Larry

Wear is next to nothing on that rifle and rust should not be a problem as long as you keep it dry and clean.

You do not need to excessively lubricate a model 7400.

Just a simple cleaning from time to time will do the trick.

You do not want to put lubricant inside of the bolt, or it will gum up and cause problems.

Rem Lube or what ever your gun cleaning kit has for oil will work on this model.

I have cleaned ones that were 20 years old that had all kinds of crap inside of them because the oil attracted dirt and lint off the clip - which most people carry in their jacket or pants pocket when not in use.  A simple shot of gun scrubber and a couple of q tips and they were as good as new.
