What is your favorite bear bait?
« on: July 12, 2007, 03:59:25 AM »
Yesterday I scored a pickup load of bread, donuts, and pie's from the local Hostess distributor. I got it all unwrapped bagged and in my large freezer I use for fur. Most of the load was out dated bread next was mixed sweets and last maybe 10 gallons of pie.
The bread I will most likely mix with molasses from the feed mill. The other sweets and the pie will easily stand alone.
If I had to choose just one thing for bear bait it would probably be a Twinkie. They smell strong, and sweet and have enough preservative keep forever. Their bright yellow for eye appeal and are fairly light to carry, unless packed lol. Of course this load of stuff only had a dozen Twinkies in it, My Bad!
A friend also got me a gallon of the liquid used to flavor Gummie Bears. I actually think I'll keep some of it back to use as lure on coon sets. The stuff is sweet and loud.

So what is your Favorite Bear Bait?

My favorite is cheap dog food and used fryer grease. However where I hunt we have a lot of brownies so I have been experimenting with non-meat baits. So far the most effective has been c-o-b(goat food) and molasses. I've tried just about everything from pie filling to bread dough. I think bears are like people if it's sweet they'll take it.

When do you bait spring or fall?
