270 WSM

Can i do up a 270wsm by stubing , and will the sb2 frame be stong enough. I just pick up a short mag barrel. I think i'm going nuts i my old age. Rich

Nope, the frame isn't strong enough, I tried a 300WSM, didn't work, too much case head thrust. The TC Encore is stronger and it isn't strong enough.

You say reciever not strong enough, what happens, does the clearence open up at the reciever ??????.

I forgot ? is on the 270WSM. Rich

Yes, frame flex is one problem, underlug set back is the other. Any magnum rifle chambering, short mag or otherwise has too much case head thrust for an SB2 frame. The 270 and 300 WSMs share the same case with a case head of .555" and a SAAMI MAP  65kpsi.  I solved the underlug setback issue, but there's not much that can reasonably be done to the frame to strengthen it by us mere mortals.  ;D

Bullberry used to offer short mag barrels for the Encore, but they recalled them and quit selling them.
