A-Bolt Rings and Bases
« on: October 08, 2007, 04:08:37 AM »
I'm looking for a little feedback from you guys on this one.  I'm mounting a new Burris FF2 on a 300 Win. A-Bolt.  I plan on using Leupold standard bases and rings.  The question is, do I use 1-piece or 2-piece bases.  I bought a 1-piece set over the weekend, but I'm not sure about it now that it's installed.  The 1-piece standard set only has 3 screws, leaving a open hole at the rear.  Also, the cut-out in the base intrudes into the ejection port both front and rear, which just doesn't look right to me.  I bought the "Long Action" base because I didn't see a "Magnum" length.  I think the 2-piece set would correct this, but it would have to be "offset" to give me good adjustability for eye relief.  I also got medium rings, but I think I have plenty of room for low rings, so I have to take them back tonight and exchange them.

What are you guys using, and what do you think?

Thanks,

I have a .243 and a .30-06 A-Bolt. Both have Leupold 2 piece bases and low rings. The both have 40mm scopes. i found the 2piece base gave me just enough room to adjust a vari-x 3 2.5-8 power scope I had on the ,30-06, there  is more than enough adjustment for the VX II 3-9x scope I have on the rifle now. Hope this helps!
