454 die set question
« on: August 16, 2007, 01:04:53 AM »
Hey guys,

I bought a Hornady die set for my encore pistol in 454 casull yesterday, and I noticed that it came with a 4th taper crimp die.  I was wondering why they included this die, as all my die sets for revolvers have been 3 die sets.  I thought taper crimp dies were only for auto pistol cartridges?  Any help with this would be great.

thanks,

Some prefer to seat and crimp in separate operations.  If you are loading on a progressive, turret, or hornady lock n load press, you need the extra TC crimp die.  It will actually roll crimp your rounds.

Look at Kennisondan's post titled "have 4 dies; one marked TC for 475L ...what ; how ; why ?".  It's several topics below your post in this section.
