Myself I would go red.

Sorry about that..., after more thought I would go yellow.  To me this gun definitely looks 19th century.

Cannons, colors, cannons, colors.... Ahhhhh. Just kidding I'm having fun. Actually it doesn't look to bad after it cured over night. I will probably do my golf ball mortar with the bluing to. I will use some of D.D.s tips and shoot you a P.M. Lance whenever I get to that. Now I can start cleaning up the carriage and go find me some suitable yeller paint. Tropico I too was wondering  why those Brits used that yellow color on there gun deck. I also heard the deck was painted red to help the people feel better when they were mopping up blood  ...hmmm.... Thats probably why our machine shop floor is red too. :-)   Tracy

well it came out o.k. i guess, sure not as pretty as smokenoak's ;D ;D ;D you are getting the hang of it, you now know what to do and what not to do.......... Tropico,Tracy--- years ago only certain paints could be used at sea, mainly course grain lead paint. only a few lead paints available, red, yellow, white. the green family was made with copper, copper or dye paints didn't last very long at sea, saltwater has it's way with things..............

Hey Tracy, Wow looks good! Did you you try cleaning the steel with denatured alcohol to get all the oil off the steel? I've had a lot of luck with this technique. That's real nice work. Love that steel carriage.  :) :) :)

I confess I used 70% rubbing alcohol, didn't use rubber gloves either. When I go paint searching  I will pick up the proper supplies and redo it. Thanks for the tough love Lance. Smokey appreciate your compliment also. The carriage will look better once cleaned up, plus in that picture the trunnion cap isn't screwed down tight. Thanks again for the help guys I'll give this another go  tonight .    Tracy
