When i built my bench, I made so it was comfortable to set to with a folding chair. The problem was the scale was so low that I had to hunch over to read the scale. My first attempt was a 1X6 with 1/4" carriage bolts to lift the scale up. I found it was too light and would scoot across the bench at the slightest bump. not good for precision scale work. See picture of my first attempt.
I wanted something that would move around. So I went to the lumber yard and bought a patio block, 1/2" all-tread, some nuts and washers, and some vinyl caps. I drilled holes through the blocks to stick the all-tread through. I made it 3 legged so it would not be "tipsy". I then cut the all-tread to the correct height so I would not have to hunch over. I glued on the caps and placed the all-thread into the block with washers and nuts. I could adjust it some for levelness with the nuts. You can cut the length to what suits your bench. It is "rock" steady now and comfortable to work at for extended periods of time. See the photos below.
