Load Data Needed
« on: July 24, 2007, 12:33:15 PM »
Hi,
I have a 340 gr. NEI SSK bullet and a jug of H-4895 powder I'm trying to put together in a 444 Marlin super 14 pistol. Does anyone have any load data for this combination. The closest I can come to is data for a 300 gr. bullet. Thanks!

I don't think any one wants to recommend a load that is not publicized, on this site. Maybe you should try calling NEI or SSK.

Sea , did you happen to see the pictures of the .44 contender that was rechambered to .444? You are asking for a load for a heavy bullet in that caliber. I don't think I'd give out the load IF I had one.

Hi,
...Well, I appreciate everyones concern, but let us remember that J.D Jones of SSK has made 10 or so wildcat chamberings of different calibers all based on the 444 Marlin cartridge! All on the Contender platform! I have seen 44 mag. published data with a 350 gr. bullet but haven't seen anything on the 444 Marlin. Just thought I would get some pointers from someone that has been shooting this round in a Contender longer than I have! While maybe not the sharpest tool in the shed, I know to work up to a specific load a little at a time! Thanks again!

The problem people have is there have been frame stretching problems with 444's on the contender frame.  The wildcats are using smaller/lighter bullets in a necked cartridge.  The combination of heavy recoil and heavy bullet is usually what tests the limits of the contender and why TC made the G2 and the Encore.

Hi,
OK, I can see the point but SSK also makes the Contender in 45/70! That cartridge utilizes bullets up to 500 grains! But like I said I can see the point of lighter bullets using the same case having less, force, recoil, pressure??? I personally will keep shooting the 444 marline in a super14 barrel. Thanks for the info!
