35 rem to 358 jdj or 358x444 or 356 win
« on: July 18, 2008, 05:20:57 PM »
Hey guys I just picked up a 21 inch 35 rem contender barrel, and want to get more performance out of it .I'm going to rechamber it to one of the above.
How much more fps can I get from the rechamber cartridges ?
I want to use it for moose and bear and deer out to 200 yards +. max 250
Hows the 200 gr. Barnes Triple Shock bullet? Will it expand at those velocities?
Hows the Nosler 225 gr. AB BULLET?
Thanks for your info.

Anyone with real experience with this caliber on game? ;)

The .356WCF is out - too high chamber pressure.  The JDJ would be my choice - it beats the .35 Remington by a bit.  According to JD, expect velocities around 1950 fps with the 250 Speer in a 14" barrel, probably 2150 in a rifle.  JD considers this bullet the best for any NA game except the big bears.

Edited for accuracy.

From a 14" Contender barrel using JD's load data I had no trouble getting 2300 fps with 225s. I can imagine no reason to need 250s and never fired any so have no clue what velocity they might deliver really but I'd hazard a guess that from a 21" barrel they should move as fast as I was able to move the 225s from my 14" barrel.

The .358 JDJ is a really powerful round almost the equal of the .35 Whelen.
