hammer won't go forward all the way.

i put i used tc barrel i got on my frame for the first time and now the hammer cocks but won't go all the way forward.  is this a locking lug problem?

It is an interlock safety problem, probably related to the locking lugs on your new barrel.  Does the barrel have two lugs (split)?  If not, get a set from T/C.  It could also be a lubricant problem - you should never use oil on the lock work of a Contender.  Spray the frame interior with degreaser to remove all oil and gunk, then wipe the outside of the frame with an oily cloth.  If you feel you must, use some powdered graphite on the aciton parts - but just a tiny amount.

i think it has the split lugs but ill have to check.  i'll have to take it all apart and look at it.  thanks.

One other cause could be a battered interlock "fly" (part 89).  This is the part that the bolts hit, and over the years several of mine have become slightly battered where the bolts touch it.  If your barrel bolts extend a bit less than normal and if the fly is battered, this may not allow the interlock safety to release.  Then all you'd need is to replace part 89.
