Husqvarna 98 mauser - 9.3x62
« on: July 09, 2007, 02:02:20 PM »
I have a husqvarna 98 mauser 9.3x62, I bought it 10 years ago.  I was thinking of taking it to a gun show to try to sell it, but I'm not sure how much to ask for it.
It is in good condition.
I filed the rear sight a little, sighting it in.
It also came with an unusual side mount, which has 3 screw holes, it screws into the side of the receiver.  I had a reputable gunsmith fill in the 3 screw holes, and he reblued the receiver, and it looks very good.  I still have the side mount.  It's kind of interesting itself.  I never really used the sidemount, but it appears like it adjusts for windage and elevation.
It feeds, shoots, and ejects flawlessly.
I would appreciate any information.

I have found that it is very hard to get your money out off any gun.  I have never been able to sell a gun for what I paid for it or even close, the exception being the sks.  The flood of 8mm Mausers will be  against you, especially at a gun show.  You'd have better luck selling privately or online.

lrs:  Your Husky is worth about $250 - $300, depending on who is interested.  SAMCO or SARCO sells the same rifle now for about that and you can add another $50 or so onto the final cost at a gun shop for dealer's fees and shipping.  I have exactly the same rifle in 8mm and it ran me $300 to get it into my hands.  I doubt I could recoup that amount at a gun show.

You can probably sell this rifle to an individual who is specifically interested in either a Swedish made 98 or the 9.3 x 62mm caliber.

That side mount sounds interesting though - you specified 3 mounting holes.  Could you provide more detail about that mount - specifically, overall length and whether the holes are drilled in a line or if they are off-set.  Do you still have the mounting screws???  Thanks.  Mikey.

That is a fine rifle!  If I didn't have a similar husky I would offer to buy it from you.  See if you can find a similar one on gunbroker or one of the other sites and see what they are selling for.

In the past I have seen them $700 - $900.  Now it seems Sarco advertises them for half that.  I don't know if Sarco can really produce a Husqvarna 98 mauser in a 9.3x62.  But it seems like right now is not a good time to try to sell this.

I don't know if they can produce a 9.3 x 62 either, but...... I am always in the hunt for another 9.3 mauser. give me a pm or email me when you make a decision to sell.
