New Tikka Stock Ordered
« on: June 09, 2003, 03:49:19 PM »
I ordered a new dual grip thumbhole style black/grey laminate stock today from Richards Microfit Gunstocks.  Added pachmayer 1" decelerator, Uncle Mike's swivels and had the 1/16th oversized inletted for bedding.  Will take about 8 weeks  for me to get it, but can't wait to replace my oem stock.  Will give you a report on it when I receive it.  Will have my gunsmith bed the stock.

That will be very nice.  Post a pic. if you can, and maybe a pic of your first 3 shot group. I would be curious to see if it shoots 1" or less like mine did out of the box.   I have a Tikka 591 (older model) and I love the factory stock a/c it looks great and it just fits what I think a well handling stock should  be like.  But I've always admired the look you are after. :D

I have a tikka whitetail hunter w/ synthetic stock and might want a better stock someday. Does the place you are getting yours from have a website? i owuld like some information on their stuff. So far, McMillan is the only place I have found that will make a stock for Tikka.

Hey dbuck, what stock do you have currently? I have the laminated gray stock and that's part of the reason I bought the rifle is it looks so nice. I have to admit though I would prefer a thumb-hole stock myself. You'll have to give us a report when you get it and recommendations.

Here is Richards web site:  http://www.rifle-stocks.com/

I have a synthetic stock now that came with the rifle, if I had a laminate stock I wouldn't ordered one from Richards.  I never thought about calling the factory and see if they would sell me one.

how much is the stock going to cost you?

How much is the gunsmithing work going to cost you to finish it completely?

Did you do this purely for looks or some other reasons as well?

308Tikka, I have about 162.00 in it with the pad, and swings.  I will have to finish the outside which is no big deal.  The stock is 98% done.  I will pay another 125.00 for my gunsmith to free float the barrel and pillar bed the stock or I might do it my self, no big deal if you have done it before.

Reason for getting a new stock is I don't like OEM synicated stocks.  I have a Bell & Carson Medalist stock that I love, but I paid 200.00 for it and Bell & Carson doesn't make anything for the Tikka, which leads me to another subject. Also I like laminated stocks and I have never own one with a thumbhole before which also helps cut down on recoil, but since I own a 270 caliber its not like shooting a mag, but every little bit counts.

I love my Tikka, but in the good old US of A, they are not that popular yet, so their is very little aftemarket products for it.  Everyone complaints about the scope rings, I purchased Burris base and rings and I love them.  They are just like I have on my Remington 700, they haven't been out that long I don't believe for the Tikka.
