most of the time if you have a hammer mounted firing pin like a COLT saa you don, dry fire , with a frame mounted pin you can , like a RUGER ! this is a rule of thumb not written in stone ! the thing to ask yourself is if your gun is worth the price of snap caps or not ?
the force on a hammer mounted pin is pretty strong if it doesn't hit a primer or snap cap ! the little pin that holds the firing pin is small !
