Alone in the Wilderness

Anybody else ever see this documentary about a man that lives alone in the wilderness for 35 years. It's one of my all time favorites.
If you enjoy the outdoors and a rustic lifestyle I highly recommend it.

Bb, havant seen that one but theirs another you might like ifin you can find it. Its call "Alaska Adventure".  Its about a family moving out in the back tule bushes of AK. The kids are raised in the bush and  it shows them growing up growing food, hunting, fishing, and learning how to live off the land. I had a copy of it once and made the mistake of loaning it out. Have never found another copy. Ifin I find another copy gonna make a couple extra this time.

Gun Runner,

I've got a few Alaskan "homesteading" books I bought while I was stationed in AK.  Shoot me a PM with a good mailing address and I'll loan 'em to ya.

Do you mean The Last of the Mountain Men?  Sylvan Hart spent a good portion of his life living alone in the River of No Return Wilderness in Idaho.

No Jackfish, thats not the guy I was referring to but that sounds like an equally interesting mountain man.
Here's the video I was referring to.

Sylvan Hart who died in 1980 was actually listed as part of the 1980 Congress-designated Frank Church/River of No Return wilderness area.  He is buried there on his homestead.  He lived there for about 45 years.

I caught that show on PBS with my dad.  I bought the video and book for him for Christmas.  Excellent video.  -Ian

BillyBob- If you're really interested in the life of Dick Proenneke, there's another video called "The Frozen North" also done by Bob Swerer Productions that's not listed on dickproenneke.com.

In this video there's more footage of Dick's life only it's narrated by Dick himself whereas "Alone in the Wilderness" is narrated by Bob Swerer.

Good stuff.

I live close to Bob Swerer and have met him several times. He is really interesting himself and a super nice guy. He has all those videos on his website for sale. If I were only younger.

The Frozen North is listed now. I saw Swerer's (father and son) on TV, soft spoken guys,
very real and very likable.
