just wondering if Thompson ever started marking the barrel twist either on the rifles, barrels, or packaging for the Encore 45's.

I know they hadn't in the past (and claimed that the 1:20 twist was not a problem for most users).

Just checking

I believe it was a problem with my gun. I had a .45 cal. barrel with a 1:20 twist and I couldn't get any accuracy out of it. I checked  the twist rate to confirm that it had a 1:20 in it and it did. I sent it back and told t/c about and told them to send me a new one with a 1:28 twist. I haven't shot it yet to see how it is going to be because my recieve is currently having some trigger work done on it.

They are all 1:28 twist barrels at the moment.

The reason I asked was in case there are any old stock laying on dealers' shelves.  It would be nice to be able to spot an old 1:20 to avoid it.

I have been taking care of my friends dog while he has been out of town. He has been out of town on two different occasions. Both times consisted of about a week at a time. Well when he go back this past friday I went out there and he threw me into shock he went up stairs and when he came back down he had a brand new Winchester Muzzleloader that he had purchased for himself and had never even shot it. He gave it to me for helping him with everything. Almost brought tears to my eyes. Anyway, these winchester mzls have the twist rate stamped on their barrels. 1:28. I know its not a Encore mzl but, I have always heard that you don't look a gift horse in the mouth. I think thats how the saying goes. It was a real nice jester :-D

Encore Twist Rates

I did see that you can order an Encore Barrel from Fox Ridge that has the conventional 1 in 48 twist. They say it will throw a conical much better. Should be good for the MAXI ball hunter I would think. From what those with experience tell me, try some power belts in your 1 in 20 twist.

I did use some powerbelts in the 1:20 TWIST they didn't work either. I did kill a doe with one at about 40 yards, it was a 195 gr. powerbelt :D  with 100gr pyrodex. But they aren't any good with any distance.
